Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) – 8 Sessions
Once you have paid for the bookings, we will contact you to arrange a suitable date and time to attend.
Description
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is an approach to helping people who have problems with their emotions or the things they find themselves doing. Sometimes we notice we experience really intense emotions or our emotions can feel up and down like a rollercoaster. We can try to manage these intense feelings by behaving in ways that are not helpful to us such as causing ourselves or others harm through impulsive decisions. One way to help us manage these intense feelings is through a skill called Mindfulness that helps to be present in the moment. This allows us to make wiser choices on how to respond to difficult situations.
DBT will help you to learn ways to help tolerate distressing feelings in the moment by learning skills we call ‘distress tolerance’ which also helps to make better choices rather than responding impulsively to our emotions. You will learn how you can improve your day-to-day wellness to be able to better regulate your emotions. This can help to reduce those big ups and downs you might be experiencing.
Alongside this you will learn how to better communicate with the people around you, maintaining healthy relationships and boundaries. This can help you to be more resilient to social stressors which for many people can be a trigger for intense feelings
