Transformative Healing with Therapeutic Life Story Work (24 Sessions)
Embrace Your Past, Empower Your Future
At Sensory Learning & Play C.I.C., we understand that every child's story is unique and deserves to be told and heard. Our Therapeutic Life Story Work (TLSW) offers a compassionate, in-depth process to help children and young people navigate their complex and often traumatic pasts, providing a path to healing and empowerment.
Who Can Benefit?
Therapeutic Life Story Work is here to support children and young people who:
-Have experienced multiple placements: Frequent moves can add layers of trauma and confusion.
-Seek answers: Children looking for clarity about past events and their impacts on current behaviours and living situations.
-Show challenging behaviours: Behaviours like self-harm, sexualised actions, or aggression that are rooted in unresolved experiences.
-Face transitions: Those nearing the end of a long-term care arrangement without understanding why they were placed in care.
Our Three-Stage Approach
1. Stage 1 – Information Bank
- Gathering Your Story: We start by collecting a detailed account of the child's life, from birth onwards, using letters, emails, visits, and interviews. This helps us build a comprehensive picture of their past.
-Building Connections: Incorporating contributions from parents, health records, and personal items like pictures and toys, we create a meaningful narrative that reflects the child's experiences and attachment issues.
2. Stage 2 – Internalisation
-Understanding Emotions: Through regular sessions, we explore the child's feelings and behaviors, helping them articulate their emotions. These sessions, held with the child, their primary carer, and the Therapeutic Social Worker, foster a safe and supportive environment.
-Creating Stability: This stage strengthens the bond between the child and their carer, supporting stability at home.
3. Stage 3 – Life Story Book
-Crafting Your Narrative: In the final stage, we help the child create a Life Story Book, capturing their journey and the progress made. This book, which the child can personalize, serves as a valuable tool for reflection and sharing.
